Teeth Cleanings and Exams
Routine teeth cleanings and exams are one of the best ways to protect your smile and your budget. When you’re consistent about visiting your San Antonio dentist every six months for preventive teeth cleanings and checkups, we can help identify any problems before they become more costly and time-consuming.
What Happens During My Teeth Cleaning and Examination?
Your bi-annual visit to your dentist is a great time to review your home care routine and see where you can improve.
For example, are you using an electric toothbrush? If not, are you using proper brushing techniques to remove the most plaque and bacteria possible? Should you consider adding an antibacterial mouth rinse to your home care routine? Your hygienist is an excellent resource for answering your questions about your dental health and home care routine.
Your hygienist will also remove the excess plaque and bacteria that you couldn’t at home.
During your exam, Dr. Pascal will check the health of your teeth and gums and your current restorations, like crowns or fillings, to ensure there’s no problematic wear or breakdown. He’ll also screen you for concerns like tooth decay and gum disease.
Detecting problems like tooth decay early on allows you to treat the concern with a more straightforward treatment like a filling. However, undetected or untreated decay will progressively get worse and move deeper into your tooth, where it could eventually cause an infection.
Being proactive about visiting your dentist consistently will ensure you protect your smile, oral health, and budget.
Additional Preventive Services
Night Guards
Are you noticing excessive wear on your teeth? Perhaps your bed partner complains about you clenching or grinding your teeth during the night? Maybe you wake up with headaches or jaw pain?
These symptoms could all be indicators that you are clenching and grinding your teeth at night while you sleep, a condition otherwise known as bruxism.
Dr. Pascal can make a custom night guard that is comfortable to wear while you sleep. Much like a retainer, it covers and protects your teeth from the damage and wear that clenching and grinding can cause.
Sports Guards
Are you or a loved one an athlete? If you participate in sports, wearing the right gear to protect your teeth and mouth from injury is essential.
Dr. Pascal creates custom mouthguards that protect your smile better than a generic, ill-fitting mouthguard from the store. A custom guard gives you the protection you need without interfering with your game-day performance.
