Tooth Extraction

At TPC Dental Care, Dr. Pascal and his team do everything they can to help you achieve and maintain a healthy smile. Sometimes, this means removing a tooth to protect your dental health if that tooth is unsalvageable.

Even though Dr. Pascal only recommends tooth extraction as a last resort, you can rest assured that if you need to remove a tooth, we’ll make the procedure as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

When Do We Recommend a Tooth Extraction?

Dr. Pascal may suggest removing a tooth in these situations:

  • A severely decayed, fractured, or damaged tooth
  • An infected tooth that can’t be saved with root canal treatment
  • Wisdom teeth, in some cases
  • To make space for orthodontic treatment

We can handle all types of tooth extraction procedures at our San Antonio dental office. In addition, Dr. Pascal has an oral surgeon work with us one day each month to handle wisdom tooth extractions or more complicated cases.

So, you can have peace of mind knowing that you’ll always be able to work with the team you know and trust.

Why Do I Need My Wisdom Teeth Extracted?

Wisdom teeth arrive in late adolescence, between the ages of 18 to 25. They come in behind your second molars, and most people don’t have enough room in their mouths to support a third set of molars.

There are several reasons why Dr. Pascal recommends removing wisdom teeth:

  • Crowding: If you don’t have enough space for your wisdom teeth, they may crowd your healthy teeth and cause shifting and bite misalignment.
  • Cleanliness: Reaching your wisdom teeth for proper brushing and flossing is tough. If you can’t keep them clean and plaque-free, it increases your risk of developing problems like tooth decay and gum disease.
  • Impaction: Wisdom teeth stuck beneath the gumline, or impacted, can cause an infection and need removal.
  • Alignment: Some wisdom teeth come in at odd angles that can negatively impact other neighboring teeth or disrupt tooth alignment.

During an evaluation, Dr. Pascal can determine if a wisdom tooth extraction is right for your needs.
